Vine Snake

One of the dangerous snakes that can be encountered when walking among the trees and bushes of the lowveld, is the Vine Snake. The Vine Snake is a long and thin snake that blends in seamlessly among the branches of the trees and bushes. The main body of the snake is a light brown colour that has alternating black and dark brown markings. This snake comes equipped with dangerous Hemotoxic venom but is not considered a threat as the snake mainly avoids humans and only attack when threatened.

Puff Adder

The Puff Adder is one of the most infamous snakes that can be found in the Lowveld. These snakes are rather sluggish and depends on its camouflage for safety. The Puff Adder has a dark brown body colour that has darker bands that go all along the body. The  Puff Adder has a large body build and has a short and flat head. This dangerous snake has a toxic cocktail of Cytotoxic and Neurotoxic venom and can kill an adult in a few hours if medical assistance isn’t attended.

Mozambique Spitting Cobra

The Mozambique Spitting Cobra is another infamous snake that can be found all around in South Africa and is not nearly as scarce and shy as other snakes on this list. This common snake has a brown – grey colour that covers its entire body. Boomslang

The Boomslang is a primarily green snake with that has solid black horizontal lines that run down its back. The head of the Boomslang is mainly covered in black and the undersides of the scales are also black, giving its green appearance black crisscross look. The Boomslang gets its name from the habitat it can usually be found in. The snakes’ green colours help it blend in with the leaves of the trees. Snouted Cobra

The Snouted Cobra is uniquely coloured with alternating beige and grey areas with a grey head. The underside is a light dusty colour  as well as its hood when opened. The snake basks in the sun during the day and will strike when threatened. When threatened, it will lift up its front 1/3 and extend its hood, like all other hooded cobras. Like some other species of Cobra, the Snouted cobra does not spit its venom towards their attackers.
