We Had A Special Delegate Come To Visit

We had one of the official members of EFA (Elephants For Africa) come to visit us at Kambaku River Lodge.

According to President Notch, "we need to remember the 'beninging' of the Kruger National Park. Kambaku River Lodge has remembered our ancestors of old. The Big Tuskers. The Magnificent Seven's history preserved by Kambaku River Lodge.

LoadShedding in South Africa

Kambaku River Lodge is Combatting Load Shedding in South Africa

"Will load shedding affect my trip to South Africa?" - This question echoes as many people wonder if they should still visit South Africa (and more specifically the Kruger National Park)

There will be effects on your trip due to load-shedding, however, it is nothing that an adventurer cannot handle! See our suggestions on What To Bring For Load Shedding In South Africa.

Kambaku River Lodge has combated this. We have decided to give everyone a much-needed break from load shedding. We have extended our solar panel capacity as well as our storage capacity. Furthermore, we have a generator, should Eskom be unable to provide power. So rest assured; you will stay in the light at Kambaku River Lodge!

No sun, no Eskom, no problem. Kambaku's got you covered.

Talk about Valentines day babies!

The Leopards Have Been Busy

Check out the video in the instagram video below. We've 'spotted' mother and cub. Come visit and we can take you to their hang out.

Many people do wonder "Can I see the big five in South Africa?" The bush never gives guarantees for anything really. The only ones reading the wildlife textbooks are the people. They'll play by their rules.

Our guide Elvis has 27 years of experience guiding in this area and he will definitely increase your chances of seeing the big five when you come to the Kruger National Park.

As usual, Kambaku River Lodge continues to enhance and improve on the suites that we offer to our guests. On the right, you will see a photo of the interior of Mafunyane Luxury Honeymoon Suite (River facing.)

Where to go in the Kruger Park? Hmm... Good question. A simple answer: Relax at the pool with a cold refreshment.

Conservation Just Got Wings!

As you may well have heard; the fence of the Kruger National Park is deteriorating without aid from government. We hate to hear when our elephant friends and others get out and roam where they are in more danger than they ought to be.
Save the elephants, save the bees.
The PlanBee Honey team hanging a hive.
Kambaku River Lodge has teamed up with PlanBee Honey in order to do what we can to protect some of our fence line. Elephants are smart. Yet they have a healthy fear of Honey Bees.

The solution is deployed out by hanging hives from trees along the fence line, especially where there are breeches in the fence. In other cases hives may be hung in trees that need protection from the elephant's playful destruction of them.

PlanBee Honey is available in the Kambaku Gift Shop - support their work and their bees!

We also work Kingdom Keepers, another local beekeeping entity; their honey is also available in the gift shop.

Catwalk Models

Meet Smokey!

Like any model, this guy really knows how to pose on the “catwalk”

And for the past few weeks, him and his brother have been the highlight for our guests on safari. Although his brother is a little more on the shy side, Smokey seems to have all the confidence in the world and has truly captured our hearts.

Being a young male, he is still spending time in his mother’s territory. It is almost inevitable that one of them will have to leave the area to find a place of their own. For now, we are enjoying every moment we have with this beautiful boy.

Stay safe young man! We look forward to many more exciting moments in the presence of this cat.

Sheeba was also spotted recently with fresh suckle marks and we are happy to report that she has 2 adorable cubs that are about 6 weeks old.

Maximus has been on patrol again lately and been covering a lot of ground from the northern parts of his territory all the way to the south. With Mzimu pushing south he seems to have his paws full now.

Luna has also been on the prowl lately, trying to find a little piece of area for herself after her independence from her mother.

Finally! Best news is that our beautiful boy Maroela, has made an appearance again after a long absence right in the heart of his territory and we are very excited to see where he will end up next.

Kambaku's Leopard in the Limelight

Keeping up with the Kardashians is not quite fun. Try keeping up with the Leopards of the Kruger Park.

Fortunately, our very own Leopard paparazzi, Leanne & Garry, runs the KNP Leopards of Malelane Facebook Page. We have 89 individual leopards positively identified and documented. (4 of which are deceased)
Please note; If you are not a member of the group mentioned above, then you will not be able to access the individual leopard links below.

Here is this month's featured leopard celeb!
